BLOOMINGTON — If IU women’s basketball didn’t make its struggles to begin the season obvious last Monday, Thursday’s game left no doubts. These are not the same Hoosiers of the last several years. Their 72-68 overtime loss to Harvard made that obvious. For a majority of the night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Teri Moren’s team looked out of sync, undisciplined, and both slower and weaker than the Crimson. It was IU’s first regular-season home loss since Feb. 2022, its first to a non-conference opponent since Dec. 2021, and its first to a non-conference opponent outside a power conference since…

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson wouldn’t disclose his halftime message to his team on Sunday. But whatever he said clearly resonated. IU slogged through the first half against Eastern Illinois at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and went into the locker room down at halftime. But the Hoosiers who returned for the second half looked like a completely different team, and they cruised to a 90-55 victory. The result won’t alleviate Woodson’s concerns about the beginning of the game, though. He called it an understatement to say Indiana (2-0) didn’t play as hard as he wanted them…

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana women’s basketball entered Thursday looking for a more encouraging performance after Monday’s win over Brown. IU lacked discipline against the Bears, even with its 22-point victory. Head coach Teri Moren thought her team was capable of better play. But on Thursday, the Hoosiers found themselves in a tight battle against another Ivy League opponent in Harvard. And ultimately, they needed overtime to settle things, but the Crimson prevailed. Harvard staved off the Hoosiers for much of the night and handed them a 72-68 defeat at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Crimson made all the big plays IU…

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana men’s basketball officially began its 2024-25 season on Wednesday, but it didn’t take long to feel like last year never ended. IU ultimately got the job done in an 80-61 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, but it was a bumpy ride. The Hoosiers leaned on a career night from Mackenzie Mgbako, who scored 31 points, to make up for some struggles elsewhere. And the team displayed some concerning tendencies along the way, things that previous Mike Woodson IU teams have struggled with as well. Some issues will be alleviated as the season…

BLOOMINGTON — The longer Teri Moren took to begin her press conference on Monday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the more an ominous energy spread through the media room. Moren, typically prompt for postgame press conferences, didn’t sit down at the dais until over 20 minutes after the final buzzer sounded on Indiana women’s basketball’s 82-60 win over Brown in its regular-season opener. And when IU’s head coach started speaking, she didn’t hold back. “I’m glad we got a win to begin the season. But I’d be up here lying if I told you I was at all pleased with…

Indiana football is nearing uncharted territory. The Hoosiers reached 9-0 with their 47-10 win at Michigan State, giving them their best start in program history. This is now the third nine-win season in program history. But Indiana football has never won 10 games in a season. That could change this Saturday, as IU hosts Michigan (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) at Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Wolverines are looking to clinch bowl eligibility for a fourth consecutive season. IU head coach Curt Cignetti met with local media on Monday to discuss the win in East Lansing, Mich., this week’s…

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Indiana football’s undefeated start in 2024 has defied everything ever associated with its program. These Hoosiers have displayed sheer dominance, a lack of mercy, and football savvy in every game. They’ve responded swiftly every time an opponent challenged them, and anytime they’ve encountered potential problems. But IU had not yet faced the amount of adversity it battled on Saturday at Spartan Stadium. Indiana, remarkably, was one of two teams in the country — along with Army — that hadn’t trailed all season entering week 10. This team, every week, took a quick lead and racked up…

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Indiana football has made history. The Hoosiers set a new record for their best start in program history on Saturday, reaching 9-0 with a 47-10 win over Michigan State at Spartan Stadium. IU trailed, 10-0, at the end of the first quarter, but completely dominated the rest of the way. This is now only the third season in IU history with nine wins — the 2024 Hoosiers join the 1945 and 1967 teams. IU had never won nine in a row to begin a season before this year. Indiana entered Saturday ranked No. 13 in both…

BLOOMINGTON — In its second of two exhibition games, Indiana men’s basketball handled business as expected. The Hoosiers completed exhibition play on a strong note on Friday, with a 106-64 win over Marian at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Division III Knights were completely overmatched against IU, and the score became lopsided quickly. Exhibition games like this should be analyzed with multiple grains of salt, given the talent disparity. But some positives still emerged on Friday, as well as some potential concerns. Here are a few of those things that stuck out. New season, same issue Despite the victories, one…
