For Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis, the big day has finally arrived. The IU duo will learn their NBA destinations Thursday night during the 2023 NBA Draft. The draft begins at 8 p.m. and will air on ABC and ESPN. These will be Indiana’s first NBA Draft selections since 2019, when the Boston Celtics took Romeo Langford at No. 14, the final pick of the lottery. Should Hood-Schifino go higher than that, he’d be IU’s highest pick in nearly a decade, since Noah Vonleh went ninth overall to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2014. IU has had seven players drafted since…

For the second straight season, Indiana football will enter fall camp with its starting quarterback yet to be determined. Redshirt freshmen Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby spent the spring engaged in a competition for the starting job. While one may have a lead going into fall, the battle is far from over. IU head coach Tom Allen and his offensive staff want to see how both players perform during fall camp and the team’s three preseason scrimmages before deciding who will throw passes for the Hoosiers against Ohio State on September 2. “Haven’t moved the needle there on that one,”…
When Christian Peterson arrived at Carmel High School last year, he’d never played cornerback. The recent IU commit spent the first two years of his high school career playing wide receiver at Pike High School, and he transferred to Carmel ahead of his junior year. The Greyhounds had a need at cornerback, with multiple Division I-quality receivers already on the roster. Head coach John Hebert saw Peterson as a versatile athlete, and proposed moving him to corner. Peterson gave it a try, and Hebert quickly realized it was a good move. Peterson immediately stood out at cornerback, both in the…
IU women’s basketball is headed overseas this summer. The Hoosiers are traveling to Greece from August 1-10, the program announced Thursday. IU will play two games in Greece, one in Athens and one in Patras. The team is allowed to officially practice for 10 days leading into the trip. In addition to the games, the Hoosiers will travel around the country, with stops in Athens, Delphi, Nafpaktos, and Olympia. This is IU’s first foreign tour since 2017, when Teri Moren’s team when to Italy. Teams are allowed to take a foreign tour once every four years. The Indiana University Athletics…
Indiana men’s basketball will look different next year. That much is certain. The team’s roster turnover this offseason has been well-documented, with several key players leaving and some intriguing pieces coming in. But IU will not only have new faces; the Hoosiers will look different stylistically as well. Trayce Jackson-Davis was the centerpiece of Indiana’s team for nearly his entire career in Bloomington, and certainly over the last two years under Mike Woodson. Woodson, essentially, had no choice but to play through Jackson-Davis. He was IU’s best player. He had room to improve and expand his game — which he…
Sharnecce Currie-Jelks knew her team needed her to make a play. UT Martin was locked in a tight battle with SIU Edwardsville in mid-February, with the Skyhawks on a three-game losing streak in Ohio Valley Conference games. Their margin for error, if they wanted to make the conference tournament, was slim. SIUE took a one-point lead with just over 30 seconds remaining in overtime, and UTM coach Kevin McMillan opted to not call a timeout. The Skyhawks took the ball up the court, and got the ball to Currie-Jelks at the top of the key with less than 10 seconds…
Indiana head women’s basketball coach Teri Moren has filled the vacancy on her staff. The Hoosiers announced Monday they’ve hired Kentucky’s Amber Smith as an assistant coach. She’s Moren’s second hire in the last two years, as Linda Sayavongchanh joined the staff in spring 2022 as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Rhet Wierzba remains IU’s associate head coach. Smith’s position became available in early May when associate head coach Glenn Box left to become head coach at Miami (Ohio). “I am thrilled that Amber is joining us in Bloomington,” Moren said in a press release. “Amber is passionate, high energy,…
For IU head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson, this has been an offseason defined by replacement. That took multiple forms. He underwent a much-needed knee replacement surgery in April, and he had to replace some major roles on the Indiana men’s basketball roster. Neither was easy and seamless for the 65-year-old Woodson and the Hoosiers. But as players come back to Bloomington for summer workouts, both Woodson and his team have come out of that period stronger. Some questioned the timing of Woodson’s right knee procedure, in the middle of a hectic transfer portal recruiting season. But he said he…
Indiana is one of the biggest winners of the Big Ten’s new football scheduling format for 2024 and 2025. The program may not say anything publicly celebrating or admitting it. But it’s the truth. These changes, brought on by UCLA and USC joining the Big Ten next summer, benefit IU football. Maryland and Rutgers surely feel the same way. The new format helps all three programs. The Big Ten scrapped its two divisions for football in favor of a “Flex Protect Plus” model. Several rivalry matchups — including Indiana-Purdue — were protected so the teams will continue to face off…
Indiana women’s basketball has landed its second recruit in the class of 2024. Forward Sydney Fenn out of AZ Compass Prep announced her commitment to the Hoosiers Tuesday on her Twitter. https://twitter.com/sydney_fenn/status/1666164932713369600 Fenn joins guard Faith Wiseman in the class of 2024. Her other offers included Cornell, Pittsburgh, Penn, Vermont, American, and Buffalo. The 6-foot-3 post player is originally from Buffalo, N.Y. Her AAU team, XGen Elite, is based in Buffalo. She’ll join Indiana’s frontcourt at a time of transition, when the Hoosiers will move on from first team All-American Mackenzie Holmes after this coming season. IU’s other forwards for…
