Indiana football’s active spring in the transfer portal is bearing fruit once again. Juco defensive back JoJo Johnson has committed to IU. He announced his decision on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. https://twitter.com/jojofootball1/status/1656011290744111104 Johnson is a Merrillville, Indiana native, and he began his college career at Notre Dame. But he tore his ACL early in that 2021 freshman season and transferred to Iowa Western Community College last offseason. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defensive back had a good 2022 season at Iowa Western. He recorded 16 tackles, three interceptions, and two pass breakups across nine games, and the Reivers won the NJCAA National…

Indiana baseball got back on track over the weekend. The Hoosiers (34-14, 12-6 Big Ten) picked up a three-game sweep at Northwestern (8-34, 2-7) to climb back into second place in the Big Ten standings. IU took Friday’s game 4-0, Saturday finished 5-2 in 12 innings, and Sunday ended 11-9. Sophomore Luke Sinnard, previously Indiana’s Saturday starter, made his first Friday start of the year in Evanston. And he recorded one of his best outings of the season, throwing 6.2 shutout innings. Sinnard allowed six hits — but only one extra-base hit — and three walks, with seven strikeouts. Redshirt…
For the second straight offseason, Teri Moren has an opening to fill on her staff. Associate head coach Glenn Box has moved on to become head coach at Miami (Ohio), both programs announced Monday. It’s his first head coaching gig in Division I women’s college basketball. Box joined Moren’s staff in 2016 and spent seven seasons with the Hoosiers, with the last three as associate head coach. He worked with Indiana’s guards, so he worked directly with Tyra Buss, Ali Patberg, Grace Berger, Chloe Moore-McNeil, and more. He was also an important recruiter for the Hoosiers — he led IU’s…
Bradley Archer is coming to Indiana to play several roles. The tight end is graduate transferring from Stanford for his final year of eligibility. He’s more of a blocking-oriented tight end, with just four career receptions with the Cardinal. He brings a more battle-tested blocking foundation to the position than, perhaps, IU’s other tight ends have. But perhaps more than that, he’s bringing needed experience and leadership to the Indiana tight end room. Before adding Archer, the Hoosiers had just one other upperclassman tight end — Trey Walker, a walk-on who’s played in just seven games in the last two…
Brody Kosin can remember the play like it was yesterday. IU football’s first class of 2024 commit opened his junior high school season with Clarkston (Michigan) High with a game against Davidson High at Michigan Stadium. He grew up a Wolverines fan, so the stage felt big. Clarkston’s offense was inside the 10-yard line, and the team’s running game was not working. Coach Kurt Richardson told his players, from the sideline, that he needed someone to make a big play. Kosin said, ‘I got it.’ The tight end lined up on the left side, with four receivers on the right.…
Indiana football alums in the NFL, for the most part, stayed put this offseason. 12 former Hoosiers are currently on NFL rosters, not counting any 2023 undrafted free agent signings. And only two players — guards Wes Martin and Dan Feeney — changed teams in free agency. Martin signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, while Feeney signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Nate Sudfeld was a free agent this offseason, but he re-signed with the Detroit Lions. Here’s a look at where the various Hoosiers are around the league. QB Nate Sudfeld, Detroit Lions Sudfeld…
For a young Indiana baseball team that was surging heading into its key series against Maryland, this weekend was a reality check. The Terrapins came to Bloomington a game behind IU in the Big Ten standings, and they swept the Hoosiers to take over the top spot. Maryland rode its electric offense to massive run totals all weekend, and Indiana just couldn’t keep up. “They (Maryland) are playing great,” IU head coach Jeff Mercer said after Saturday’s game. “They’re really good, they’re talented, they’re offensive, and they’re putting it together at the right time for themselves. Sometimes it’s not as…
Former IU men’s basketball forward Jordan Geronimo is staying in the Big Ten. The Newark, N.J. native announced on Twitter that he’s heading closer to home to play at Maryland. https://twitter.com/JordanGeronimo2/status/1652303540109336576 Geronimo entered the transfer portal in March after Indiana’s season ended. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining for the Terrapins. The rising senior played three years for the Hoosiers, and struggled to find a consistent place in their rotation. He frequently flashed potential, with tremendous length and athleticism, but it just never fully came together. In 2022-23, Geronimo appeared in 27 games, with six starts while Race Thompson…
Tony Petitti was introduced as the Big Ten’s new commissioner on Friday at a press conference in Chicago. He takes over for Kevin Warren, who left the role to become president of the Chicago Bears on April 14. Petitti officially begins his tenure with the Big Ten on May 15. Petitti brings a wealth of experience in the sports industry to the conference. He worked in senior executive roles at CBS Sports, ABC Sports, and MLB Network, and then served as Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer at Major League Baseball from 2014 to 2020. He spent Friday’s press conference…
Indiana football has landed tight end Bradley Archer from Stanford in the transfer portal. Archer announced the news on his Twitter page Friday evening. https://twitter.com/bradleyarcher_/status/1652067304010838017 Archer is a graduate transfer, so he’ll have one year of eligibility for the Hoosiers. He spent his first four collegiate seasons with the Cardinal. He played in 11 of Stanford’s 12 games in both 2021 and 2022. Archer did not record a reception in 2022. He’s caught four passes in his collegiate career, three of which came as a junior in 2021. He totaled 32 receiving yards that season. The Livermore, Calif. native was…
