Indiana women’s basketball clinched at least a share of its first Big Ten championship since 1983 on Sunday by beating Purdue at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. And now, the Hoosiers have secured the outright title without even taking the court. No. 7 Maryland demolished No. 6 Iowa, 96-68, on Tuesday in College Park. That gives No. 2 IU a two-game lead in the standings over both the Terps and Hawkeyes with just one game remaining. Indiana wraps up the regular season on Sunday against the Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. ESPN’s College GameDay is going to Iowa City ahead of the…

The Indiana football press conference introducing new safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Matt Guerrieri seemed a straightforward affair. But an extra bit of news out of this hire created immediate additional intrigue. Head coach Tom Allen announced that his new hire would take over defensive play-calling duties. Allen called plays for IU’s defense last season, returning to that role after delegating the responsibility to Kane Wommack in 2019-20 and to Charlton Warren in 2021. But it wasn’t always smooth for Allen in play-calling this year, and he wanted to get back to a structure more similar to what IU had…

BLOOMINGTON — On the most significant day in her tenure as Indiana’s head women’s basketball coach — and one of the most significant in the program’s history — Teri Moren experienced a range of emotions. There was some frustration, as her Hoosiers didn’t play their best basketball in the first half against Purdue and felt the officials missed some calls. There was some sadness, in honoring seniors Alyssa Geary and — particularly — Grace Berger, knowing the latter’s stellar IU career is winding down. But that was soon washed away by overwhelming joy and pride. Indiana ran away with an…

The second-ranked Hoosiers defeated arch-rival Purdue, 83-60 on Sunday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, giving them a 1 ½-game lead over Iowa with one game left in the regular season. The Hawkeyes would also claim a share of the title with wins over Maryland and IU. Indiana led 37-34 at halftime, but the Hoosiers did not play their best basketball. Purdue employed a box-and-one defense to combat Mackenzie Holmes, and it caused some problems for IU. And while the Hoosiers forced eight…

BLOOMINGTON — In a span of just 25 seconds, Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall felt the full Jalen Hood-Schifino experience. With 1:41 left to play, and Indiana and Illinois tied at 65, Hood-Schifino took the ball up the floor following a lengthy video review. He set IU’s offense into motion, before attempting a pass to his left to Race Thompson at the top of the key. But he telegraphed the pass, and it wasn’t hard enough. Fighting Illini junior Coleman Hawkins stole the ball, took it the other way, and dunked it. But back came the freshman, looking unshaken. He went…
