Dane Fife remembers the countless nights spent with Dusty May in the basement of Assembly Hall. May served as a student manager for Indiana men’s basketball from 1996 through 2000, overlapping with Fife during the first two years of his accomplished IU career. But their relationship really took off when Fife was a grad assistant at IU and May was an administrative assistant under Mike Davis. May, technically, was Fife’s boss. And he gave him responsibility, naming him video coordinator. They plugged away working relentlessly in that cramped space in the legendary arena, and Fife admired May’s work ethic, character, and…

Offensive line has been a weak spot for Indiana for a few years. The issues reached a boiling point during the season last fall, when Tom Allen fired offensive line coach Darren Hiller. The group showed a little improvement after Rod Carey took over, but still had a long way to go. But with many key pieces returning, and a new, experienced position coach leading the way, IU’s offensive line could turn into a much stronger unit next season. Allen hired Wisconsin offensive line coach Bob Bostad to be IU’s O-line coach and run game coordinator. He coaches several iterations…

The Hoosiers spent the entire season in the top 15 of the AP Poll, and all but two weeks in the top 10. They ascended to a program-best No. 2 ranking, and held that for five weeks. This IU team had a lot of firepower, and plenty of veteran leaders, but Holmes led the way both…

Indiana will be leaning on youth at tight end this year. AJ Barner was Indiana’s only experienced tight end last year, and he was limited by injuries for a lot of the season. He played in 10 games, and he did finish third on the team with 28 receptions and second with three touchdowns. He also posted 199 yards, and was a solid run-blocker. But Barner entered the transfer portal after the season and landed at Big Ten rival Michigan. So as Kevin Wright goes into his fourth season working with Indiana’s tight ends, he’ll have no scholarship returnees in…

BLOOMINGTON — Finality is an endlessly difficult thing for humans to come to grips with. It presents itself in different settings, taking different forms, and carrying different meanings. For Indiana women’s basketball, Monday night presented the instantaneous version, in its most painful form, with meanings that the players will need a long time to grasp. Indiana, a No. 1 seed for the first time in program history, saw a golden opportunity to reach its…
