With around a month left in the regular season, Indiana baseball is in a good position. Jeff Mercer’s squad sits in first place in the Big Ten standings, with a 9-3 conference record. And with a 30-11 overall record, the Hoosiers are the first Big Ten team to hit 30 wins. IU reached that mark over the weekend with a series sweep over Ohio, which also helped the team crack the Baseball America Top 25 rankings. IU is currently riding a seven-game winning streak. The Hoosiers actually got off to a tough start, with losses in four of their first…

After Indiana football’s season ended in late November, Peter Schulz took a few weeks off before beginning to prepare for something unlike anything he’d done before. Schulz was a walk-on offensive lineman for the Hoosiers from 2019-2022. He was never really put into the spotlight. But he’ll be firmly in the middle of the action on Saturday at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Schulz is riding for Alpha Kappa Psi in the 72nd running of the men’s Little 500. The senior has no prior competitive cycling experience. He rode a bike to friends’ houses as a kid, and did some longer rides…

Indiana women’s basketball’s offseason to-do list looks a lot different than last year’s. IU entered the 2022-23 season with seven new faces — half the roster — between transfers and freshmen. With three huge pieces graduating after the 2021-22 season, that sort of overhaul became necessary. This year, the Hoosiers have four open scholarships, but Grace Berger was the only major player they lost. They’re looking at reinforcements in the transfer portal, undoubtedly. But in order to assess what IU head coach Teri Moren and her staff could add this offseason, it’s important to consider what the team already has.…

With spring camp over, Indiana football now has another chance to assess and address its roster. The transfer portal reopened on April 15 through the end of the month. That window is the time frame in which players can enter the portal — they can then commit whenever after April 30. Organized team activities will begin again in June, so the Hoosiers have a chance to make some additions. IU currently has a handful of open scholarships. During a media availability in early April, IU head coach Tom Allen said the staff would be looking at possible transfer portal reinforcements. “It’s different…

Indiana football wrapped up spring camp on Saturday at Memorial Stadium with its Spring Football Fan Event, a reimagined spring game. The event started with a few competitions, and some things that got fans involved on the field, like attempting to kick a field goal or catch a punt from the JUGS machine. The team then played two quarters of a scrimmage that more closely resembled usual spring games. IU head coach Tom Allen spoke with media afterwards as well, with some updates on where the team stands heading into summer and more. A key point he made was that…

Indiana football wraps up its spring camp on Saturday with its Spring Football Fan Event at Memorial Stadium. This is not a traditional spring game, as the Hoosiers have done in the past. It’s more of a light scrimmage — essentially what practices typically look like. The festivities begin at 11 a.m., when practice begins, the kids area opens, and the tailgate party starts. That lasts through 12:30, when practice will end, and head coach Tom Allen will address the team and the crowd. After that, at approximately 12:40, fans will be able to interact with IU coaches and players…

Indiana football held its final regular practice of spring camp on Thursday. The Hoosiers have one more session left, with Saturday’s spring football fan event at Memorial Stadium. After that, the next time the team will fully reconvene is to start preseason camp ahead of the 2023 season. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Walt Bell and co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Matt Guerrieri met with the media after Thursday’s practice. Here’s a look at some of their thoughts. Quarterback updates Bell works more closely with Indiana’s quarterbacks than anyone else, so he’s had a front-row seat to watch redshirt freshmen…

After both suffering torn ACLs last season, offensive lineman Matthew Bedford and wide receiver Cam Camper are working towards returns in 2023. Neither player has a timetable for a full return yet. Both are hoping to be ready in time for Indiana’s first game of the season against Ohio State, but it’s all dependent on rebuilding both full strength and confidence in their knees, which can take time. Bedford suffered his injury during Indiana football’s season-opener against Illinois on September 2. He underwent surgery and missed the rest of the campaign. But Bedford is back for another ride, as he used…

Donaven McCulley has looked different this spring. After spending the last year switching from quarterback to wide receiver and getting used to playing a new position, he’s a lot more comfortable now. But even physically, McCulley is different. The junior spent the offseason slimming down, wanting to get quicker. He lost around eight pounds, and went from 10 percent body fat to around seven or eight percent. The Indianapolis native chalked up the weight loss to an improved diet. “Just talked to coach (Aaron) Wellman and the staff, and our nutritionist, Isaac (Hicks III), just making sure I’m eating the…

Grace Berger has made it two years in a row for IU women’s basketball in the WNBA Draft. The Louisville native was selected by Indiana Fever with the No. 7 overall pick on Monday in New York City. She’s the first Hoosier to ever be selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft. “I knew it would be amazing, but I think I was really grateful, full of emotion when I heard my name called,” Berger said. “Especially being there with my dad, who had been taking me to Indiana Fever games since I was six, seven, eight years…
