Chloe Moore-McNeil has been an understated weapon for IU women’s basketball all season. The junior entered the starting lineup this season after coming off the bench as a sophomore. And though her stats will rarely jump off the page, she’s played a key role in IU’s success. She’s held a steady hand in controlling the action when running the point, is one of the team’s best defenders, and rarely makes the wrong decision. Moore-McNeil’s importance was clear during IU’s 69-46 win at Purdue Sunday. “I thought Chloe did a tremendous job of handling herself, not just hitting the threes, but…

When two relatively evenly-matched college basketball rivals meet up, fine margins can often decide the game. The difference between victory and defeat can be slim. That was the case in Saturday’s game between No. 1 Purdue and No. 21 Indiana. And on this day, the Hoosiers found the necessary resolve to win. The Boilermakers fought back in the second half, but Indiana made the plays down the stretch to put the game away. And that sent IU to a 79-74 win, its second win over its in-state rival in the last three matchups. “We honestly just played hard, we played…

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Indiana played a messy game against Maryland. The Hoosiers weren’t perfect during their five-game winning streak, only playing to their full potential on both ends, simultaneously, in spurts. But IU was finding ways to win games. That was not the case Tuesday. The Hoosiers let Maryland be the aggressor for most of the game, and they just couldn’t get into a rhythm. And that saw their streak end, with Maryland pulling out a 66-55 win at Xfinity Center. “We couldn’t make shots. Our perimeter play was non-existent tonight. And we haven’t had it like that in…

Shortly before Indiana took the court against Ohio State, head coach Mike Woodson talked with freshman Jalen Hood-Schifino. The point guard was battling an upset stomach, but was set to play anyway. Woodson wanted to reassure him and motivate him ahead of the game. So he channeled some of his own experiences. “I told him right before the game, I said, ‘Hey, I’ve had some of my best games when I’ve been sick, so hell, I can’t feel sorry for you, you’ve got to strap them up and go play. We need you,'” Woodson said. “He performed. I thought he…

When Tayven Jackson entered the transfer portal, Indiana quickly stuck out. The redshirt freshman quarterback entered the transfer portal after one season at Tennessee. He committed to Indiana just two days later. Jackson had existing relationships with Indiana’s coaching staff, from when they recruited him out of Center Grove High. And he said IU head coach Tom Allen sold him on the culture around the program. “It’s because of coach Allen’s energy, the love that he has for the players, what he brings every single day, a loving culture,” Jackson said. “I’ve been here for a week, in the locker…
