MINNEAPOLIS — Even though Mike Woodson was not with Indiana in Minnesota, the Hoosiers never panicked. IU found out Wednesday morning that its head coach would stay back while recovering from COVID-19. Associate head coach Yasir Rosemond took the figurative — and, because of the raised floor at Williams Arena, the literal — head coach pedestal. And IU’s sideline didn’t operate differently than normal. The players worked through a tight Big Ten road game with Rosemond as if he’s been at the helm all season. There were moments where it felt like last-place Minnesota would pull this game out. But…

When Race Thompson went down with a knee injury at Iowa, he feared the worst. Based on the way it looked and felt, the senior forward thought his knee was damaged severely enough to end his season and his IU career. His Hoosiers led the Hawkeyes when that moment occurred, and it played a big role in IU’s crushing defeat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Thompson returned to game action Sunday against Michigan State, though in a very limited capacity. And he’s gained even clearer perspective and appreciation for suiting up after missing the four games. “Coming back, I have even more…
Indiana women’s basketball has achieved so much over the past several years. The Hoosiers reached their first-ever Sweet Sixteen in 2021, and then did it again the very next season. They got to an Elite Eight. They reached the Big Ten Tournament championship game for the second time in program history. They hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Bloomington for the first time. Head coach Teri Moren recently became the program’s all-time winningest coach. The milestones and landmark achievements have come so regularly, it starts to feel like business as usual. And that’s exactly the case…
In a top-15 matchup on the road, Indiana women’s basketball hung on. The sixth-ranked Hoosiers staved off a fourth-quarter comeback by No. 13 Michigan and left Crisler Center with a 92-83 win. This win sends Indiana to 18-1 overall, its best start in program history. The Hoosiers also pulled into a three-way tie with No. 2 Ohio State and No. 10 Iowa for first place in the Big Ten at 8-1. All-American forward Mackenzie Holmes led the way for Indiana once again. She scored a team-high 25 points while shooting 9 for 16 from the field, and also led the team…
Indiana football appears likely to roll with youth at quarterback in 2023. Speaking to local media Sunday, head coach Tom Allen said he’s not planning to add another quarterback from the transfer portal before the Hoosiers hold spring football. Indiana has rising junior Dexter Williams recovering from his dislocated knee injury in the season finale. Rising sophomore Brendan Sorsby returns, and the Hoosiers add true freshman Broc Lowry and redshirt freshman Tayven Jackson from the transfer portal. “(We) have had discussions about that (adding a veteran quarterback), but that’s one of those things that is a little challenging to do.…
In just eight days, Indiana basketball completely turned its season around. And the Hoosiers didn’t need to get Race Thompson and Xavier Johnson back to do it. Those injuries cost the team both depth and key pieces on both ends of the court. But Indiana’s issues went beyond those injuries. This team had a mentality problem. The Hoosiers crumbled when it mattered most against Iowa, Northwestern, and Penn State. Various things went against them, and they responded poorly. They hung their heads and let the moments get the best of them. And their opponents capitalized. Trayce Jackson-Davis met with his…
Trayce Jackson-Davis has enjoyed many strong performances throughout his Indiana career. He’s put the Hoosiers on his back so many times. And he has a plethora of clutch moments on his highlight reel. His outing on Thursday against Illinois might top them all. The senior completely dominated the Fighting Illini at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois, leading the Hoosiers to a massive 80-65 win. Indiana (12-6, 3-4 Big Ten) went to Jackson-Davis inside over and over again. And why not? Illinois (13-6, 4-4) was attempting to defend him straight-up, without going to double-teams like most IU opponents do.…
Mackenzie Holmes is one of the most decorated players in Indiana women’s basketball history. She’s earned All-Big Ten honors in each of her three seasons in Bloomington — one All-Freshman team, one first team, and one second team. She was named an All-American honorable mention by the Associated Press in 2021 and by WBCA in 2022. The senior has been named to numerous watch lists during her career, along with several player of the week awards. She’s statistically one of the best players to ever don an IU uniform. And after another dominant performance Wednesday at Illinois, it’s time to…
After an upstart Illinois team jumped ahead in the first quarter, Indiana women’s basketball took control of the game and ran with it. The No. 6 Hoosiers pulled away with an 83-72 win Wednesday over the No. 21 Fighting Illini at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. With this win, Indiana matched its best start to a season in program history, at 17-1. The only other IU women’s basketball team to start a season 17-1 was in 1971-72 — the program’s first season. Teri Moren also became the winningest head coach in IU women’s basketball history with this victory.…
With Race Thompson and Xavier Johnson out, Indiana’s needed a little bit more from everyone else. And during this stretch, Miller Kopp is shooting at the lowest volume of his career. He’s attempted 10 total field goals in the last four games. Even dating back to his days at Northwestern, he’s never recorded that few field-goal attempts over a four-game span. There are several reasons for that low number. He’s not the type of player who, on the ball, can create his own shot with regularity. And defenses are sticking with him to prevent the wide-open looks, even as they…
