Keyanna Warthen didn’t always envision herself coaching. Indiana women’s basketball’s new team and recruitment coordinator and assistant coach knew she liked working with kids, and she loved basketball. But she didn’t begin picturing herself as a coach until she transferred from IU to SMU in 2021 — and even still, she didn’t immediately go that route. She took a marketing internship with the WNBA’s Dallas Wings after completing her sports management master’s degree at SMU. It took Warthen stepping back from the action to fully realize where she belonged. “To kind of not be around it but work behind the…

IU baseball entered Saturday at the Big Ten Tournament with wins in its first two games and high hopes of bolstering its potential NCAA Tournament résumé. The Cornhuskers’ close win Saturday morning forced a win-or-go-home game for both teams around five hours later. The nightcap’s result was never really in doubt. Nebraska dominated at the plate with seven extra-base hits and rolled to a 10-4 victory at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. A…

Indiana baseball set the tone of Thursday’s Big Ten Tournament matchup against Ohio State early. The Hoosiers made clear the contest would be a slugfest, with five runs in the second inning. This is the first time since 2014 IU has won its first two games in the Big Ten Tournament. And Indiana’s 14 runs tied a program record for its most in a Big Ten Tournament game. Indiana (32-22-1)…

Indiana men’s basketball went into this offseason with a lot of work to do and very little margin for error. With the program opting to stick by head coach Mike Woodson despite some recruiting misses in the class of 2024 and a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, this became a critical offseason for the Hoosiers. And with seven open scholarships, thanks to Liam McNeeley decommitting, Kel’el Ware going to the NBA Draft, and three outbound transfers, IU was looking at a major roster overhaul. Woodson was playing the transfer portal on expert mode. Given some of his swings and misses in the…

Shay Ciezki’s basketball journey started with gymnastics. Her older brother by three years, Matthew, played basketball his entire life and went on to play at Division III Keuka College in upstate New York. When he was on the court growing up, Shay was often hanging on the sideline. Sometimes she’d dribble a ball, sometimes she’d just tumble around. By age six, Shay started to play, herself. The Buffalo, N.Y. native eventually became a dangerous 3-point shooter at Penn State, before transferring to Indiana women’s basketball in April. “He would go to clinics and camps, and I’d be there doing cartwheels…

For some people, it’s LeBron Bond’s name that grabs their attention. Bond knows his name can raise eyebrows. He is, in fact, named after NBA legend LeBron James.
