BLOOMINGTON — Offensive lineman Nick Kidwell’s reported season-ending knee injury has thrown off Indiana football’s plans on the line heading into the regular season. First reported by ESPN, Kidwell suffered the injury last week during fall camp. The sixth-year senior played in just four games last season at James Madison before suffering a season-ending injury. He recovered from that and followed head coach Curt Cignetti to Indiana in the offseason, and he was set to start at right guard this year. After seeing everything Kidwell already went through, Cignetti couldn’t help but feel bad for the lineman. “On a personal…

Indiana’s tight ends did not prominently feature in its offense last season. None of those players finished with more than 100 receiving yards last season, and none played particularly significant roles outside of pass-catching, either. That could change this year, with a new offensive system in place that appears more favorable to tight ends. The Hoosiers saw some roster turnover at the position, but bring back two of their primary tight ends from last season and two players with encouraging potential. But it’s the one transfer portal addition that will lead the way for the tight end room. Prior previews:…
Indiana’s running back room may have seen more turnover than any other position group on the team. The Hoosiers completely overhauled their roster of running backs from last season, with just one returning player — with no Division I snaps to his name. So the backfield will now consist of five transfer portal additions, with three following Curt Cignetti and his staff from James Madison. And through spring and fall camps, the players have displayed potential to improve IU’s running game. Since his first day at Indiana, Curt Cignetti has emphasized his preference for production over potential. There’s no greater representation of that on IU’s current roster than the wide receivers. Cignetti and his staff transformed the wide receiver room in the offseason with several key transfer portal additions, augmenting some good returnees. The wide receivers have the potential to be one of the strongest position groups on the team, as well as one of the better teams at the position in the Big Ten. Here’s our preview of Indiana’s wide receivers. Prior previews: Quarterbacks Roster turnover — who’s gone DeQuece…
Indiana entered the last two seasons with uncertainty at quarterback. But Curt Cignetti and his staff have brought a lot of change to the program already, and that’s one thing that’s noticeably different. The Hoosiers will have a new starting quarterback for the third straight year, but it’s clear who will take those snaps on August 31 against FIU. Quarterback is widely regarded as the most important position in sports, so it’s only right to begin our IU position previews there ahead of the 2024 season. Roster turnover — who’s gone Brendan Sorsby (transfer — Cincinnati) Broc Lowry (transfer — Western…
For someone who’d never played football before beginning his college career, James Evans is doing pretty well for himself. The Auckland, New Zealand native, in just three years, evolved from the guy who was learning the basics of the game to a player earning national recognition. Evans enters his fourth year as Indiana’s starting punter as a veteran voice on the team, and the clear veteran leader among IU’s specialists. The senior knows he’s come a long way to get to that point. “I think my first year, everything was just so new to me,” Evans said. “And with having…

In her final Olympic race, Lilly King struck gold. King swam the breaststroke leg of the 4×100-meter medley relay on Sunday in Paris, and she helped the United States win the gold medal and set a new world record in the event, at 3:49.63. The Indiana alum’s breaststroke leg helped the U.S. start to pull away from the rest of the field. This is King’s third Olympic gold medal, and sixth Olympic medal overall. The Evansville native has now won medals in all three Olympic Games she’s competed in. King also swam in two individual events in Paris, and qualified…
