Indiana women’s basketball’s matchups against Iowa in recent years were defined by clashes of top-10 teams and two of the best players in the country in Mackenzie Holmes and Caitlin Clark. This season’s version carried a different feeling without that star power, so the heat was turned down a bit on this game. And that worked in Indiana’s favor on Sunday. IU controlled the contest for its entirety and defeated Iowa, 74-67, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It’s just the program’s second victory in Iowa City in the last 30 years. The Hoosiers (12-4, 4-1 Big Ten) played well on both ends…

When Mike Woodson’s Indiana men’s basketball teams lose, it often gets out of hand. Saturday’s 85-60 demolition by Iowa was just the latest example of the way Woodson’s teams let bad games get worse. This was IU’s fourth loss of the season, and the closest of those defeats was the 16-point margin against Gonzaga in The Bahamas. In total, across Woodson’s three-plus seasons in Bloomington, Indiana has 44 losses (with 76 wins). 26 of those 44 losses have finished with double-digit margins, and 21 of the defeats have been by 15 points or more. This trend hasn’t always been prevalent. During…

After the most successful season in program history, Indiana football is continuing its upward trajectory. Head coach Curt Cignetti said in November that the Hoosiers have “reaped the rewards of being successful on the field” with recruiting, and that “everything is on the up-and-up.” And after compiling a solid high school class, IU is backing up those assertions in the transfer portal once again. Cignetti’s first transfer class played a major role in IU’s historic season, with transfers leading the team in most significant stat categories. He’s compiled a group of transfers in this winter window that ranks even higher…

BLOOMINGTON — After a rocky start to his Indiana men’s basketball career, Luke Goode is settling in. The Illinois transfer averaged just 4.3 points per game in his first seven contests as a Hoosier, while shooting 6 for 21 from 3-point range. Goode’s effort never wavered as he endured the struggles, and he displayed leadership in some important moments when IU needed it. The Fort Wayne native routinely plays the hardest of anyone on the floor when he’s in the game for Indiana. His outside shooting has since improved — Goode entered Wednesday’s game against USC at 37.8 percent over…

PHILADELPHIA — Throughout most of the start to this 2024-25 season, Indiana men’s basketball has struggled with the little things in the game and found ways to give things away. IU often played down to its mid-major competition at home, and had to sweat out games that should’ve been far less stressful. The Hoosiers didn’t drop any of those contests, but they backed up the concerns from those wins by displaying red flags in their three losses to Louisville, Gonzaga, and Nebraska. This was an Indiana team that entered January without a Quad I win. It needed to start capitalizing…

Indiana women’s basketball had a big opportunity on Saturday against No. 1 UCLA. The Hoosiers had played much better in December, and this was their chance to prove themselves against a top-tier opponent, on their home court. But the Bruins are No. 1 for a reason, and they showed it in a 73-62 victory at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. UCLA (15-0, 4-0 Big Ten) leaned on its defense to win this game.  Indiana (10-4, 2-1 Big Ten) shot just 19 percent from 3-point range, as the Bruins made things difficult all over the court. The second quarter, in particular, was rough for…

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana men’s basketball performed a complete turnaround in just one game. IU shot a jarring 1 for 20 from 3-point range against Winthrop on Sunday. But Thursday was another story. Against Rutgers, the Hoosiers went 12 for 27 from beyond the arc, their most threes in a single game under Mike Woodson. The improved outside shooting led to an 84-74 win at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. “Guys stepped up, they made ’em, which was kind of nice to see,” Woodson said after the game. “That’s probably the most threes we’ve made this season so far and I just…

BLOOMINGTON — Shooting basketballs is a funny thing. After one of the worst 3-point shooting performances in modern Indiana men’s basketball history, that’s all head coach Mike Woodson could think of. The Hoosiers escaped on Sunday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall against Winthrop, 77-68. But they did so in spite of an abysmal 1-for-20 clip from 3-point range. IU went 0 for 9 from 3-point range last season at Illinois. But among its games with a made three, this was its lowest 3-point percentage since at least 2011. Outside shooting is far from a new issue for this IU…

BLOOMINGTON — Things are starting to turn around for Indiana women’s basketball. The Hoosiers slogged through their first three games of the year, surviving despite sloppy play against Brown but falling to Harvard and Butler. It became very evident, very quickly, that this team was different than the ones that reached three Sweet 16s in the last four years. IU bounced back with nice wins over Stanford, Columbia, and Baylor, but closed out November with another clunker against North Carolina. But IU has seemingly settled in during December. The team capped off the month with a dominant 83-52 victory over…
