Former IU basketball star Randy Wittman has been in Bloomington much more frequently of late since he played a key role in Bob Knight’s return in 2020, and he now serves as an advisor to his good friend and former Hoosier teammate Mike Woodson. A year ago, a torn ACL had D.J. Matthews questioning whether he should come back to Indiana. His dilemma cut even deeper — it also made him question if football was even the right career path. Matthews’ mental health, his spirit, and his manhood felt defeated after he got injured against Western Kentucky during week four of the 2021 season. With a full spring and summer of travel basketball in the books, all three (On3, 247Sports, Rivals) of the major national recruiting outlets have updated their player rankings for the class of 2023. On3 made their update a few weeks ago, and 247Sports and Rivals both published updates this week. The Indiana basketball players put on their second annual Fan Fest on Saturday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Proceeds from the event went to the players for use of their name, image and likeness. Videos of the event suggest two or three thousand fans attended the Fan Fest. Fans paid between $5 and $149. The IU players participated in a 3-point contest won by Tamar Bates, a dunk contest won by Jordan Geronimo, and also held a light eight minute scrimmage.
