Indiana opened its 2022 fall camp on Tuesday. We are a long way from the Sept. 2 season opener vs. Illinois, but it is always interesting to take a look at the depth chart before fall camp, and then revisit it as the season gets set to begin. Former IU sidearmer Scott Effross has gone from candy stripes to pinstripes. The New York Yankees acquired the right-handed reliever from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a minor leaguer on Monday. The 28 year-old Effross was in the middle of a breakout rookie season with the Cubs. In 44 innings the Twinsburg, Ohio product has a 2.66 ERA and has struck out 50 batters and walked just 11. “He’s actually been someone that has been on our radar for several months,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Monday. “I’ve heard his name a lot. Watch as IU basketball sophomore guard Tamar Bates met with the media on Thursday afternoon via Zoom. The Kansas City, Kan. product averaged 3.9 points while shooting 33.8 percent from the field overall and 29.8 percent from three as a true freshman in 2021-22.  Bates added 1.3 rebounds and .6 assists in 14.5 minutes per contest. IU basketball forward Miller Kopp released a new video on his YouTube channel, “A day in the life of a D1 athlete (summer edition).” In the video you can take a behind the scenes look at how Kopp trains during the offseason, and other aspects of his day-to-day life in Bloomington during the summer. A 6-foot-7 forward, Kopp has scored 1,041 points at IU and Northwestern. We are less than 45 days until IU football kicks off its 2022 season on Sept. 2 against Illinois. The forecasted balance of power in the Big Ten looks much the same as it has for years according to the gambling industry. Tipico Sportsbook recently released their projected win totals for each Big Ten program (other than Rutgers) ahead of the 2022 college football season.  They have IU as one of their bottom-four teams in the league, with an estimated 4.5 wins for the upcoming campaign. Indiana football redshirt-senior Jack Tuttle has been nominated for the 2022 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, which honors 22 leaders and community champions from around college football’s five subdivisions. Tuttle was among the nominees for the Wuerffel Trophy in 2021 and has been a part of numerous initiatives in both the Bloomington area and around the country. He worked with the Red Cross this year on disaster relief and blood drives, while also donating plasma and blood himself. Indiana senior running back Shaun Shivers has been named a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Wednesday (July 20). The Forum annually presents the award to the nation’s top college running back.A transfer from Auburn, Shivers joined the program for spring practice after appearing in 49 games with nine starts in four seasons on The Plains. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native enters his first season with the Hoosiers as a 1,000-yard rusher in his career with eight rushing scores. Two more IU baseball right-handers were selected on day three of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, and both are headed to the same organization. Bradley Brehmer was taken in the 12th round by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, and Reese Sharp was a 20th round pick of the Orioles. Brehmer joins fellow rotation-mate Jack Perkins as selections in the 2022 draft and, along with Sharp’s selection, gives Indiana 11 pitchers drafted under head coach Jeff Mercer.
