IU women’s basketball coach Teri Moren and Team USA Basketball have at least one thing in common. They just win. And with Moren leading the way, the U18 National Team claimed an 80-69 win over Canada in the championship game at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup on Sunday night. The squad breezed through group play with convincing victories over Brazil (97-51), Puerto Rico (102-22) and Mexico (116-20). They also secured a semifinal win versus Dominican Republic (125-27) and in the quarterfinals against Argentina (109-32). Indiana’s significant presence on the men’s and women’s swimming teams headed to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris grew on Sunday, the final day of qualifying at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Blake Pieroni was the final addition to the 26-man roster as the sixth-place finisher in the 200-meter freestyle. He will represent Team USA on the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. Additionally, incoming transfer Matt King was named to the Olympic team as the sixth-place finisher in the 100-meter freestyle. King will begin training at IU in the fall following his Olympic debut. The wait is over for Josh Matheny and Anna Peplowski. The Indiana swimming and diving seniors were announced as members of the U.S. Olympic Team by USA Swimming Saturday night at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Both athletes posted qualifying performances earlier in the week – Matheny was the No. 2 finisher in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke on Wednesday, and Peplowski finished fifth in the 200-meter freestyle on Monday. Indiana native and 2025 IU basketball target Jalen Haralson made the USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team following five days of training camp in Colorado Springs. The U17 national team, chosen from the 34 participants, will compete at the 2024 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup, scheduled for June 29-July 7 in Istanbul. Selections were made by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee. Haralson, a 6-foot-6 guard/wing from Fishers, Ind., placed IU in his top-nine schools earlier this year. 2020 Olympic silver medalist Jessica Parratto earned a trip to her third Olympics on Tuesday (June 18) at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials inside the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Parratto and partner Delaney Schnell won the women’s synchronized 10-meter – the event they earned a silver medal in at the 2020 Tokyo Games – with a score of 607.14 points. Parratto enters the 2024 Paris Games a three-time Olympian, adding to an elite list of IU women to reach three Olympics in diving. Five-time Olympic medalist Lilly King pulled off a hat trick in her home state. King, a native of Evansville, Ind. and former IU swimmer, finished first in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. King finished the race with a time of 1:05:43 and had the only time under 1:06. Her performance in the final ranks as the fourth fastest time in the world this season.
