Former IU basketball great Steve Alford was in northern Indiana this week for his family’s basketball camp affiliated with Huntington University. In an interview with WANE TV, Alford discusses the camp, the recent changes in college basketball, Bob Knight, and more. Alford graduated as IU’s all-time leading scorer.  He is currently the head coach at Nevada. He set an NCAA record with his seven baskets from beyond the arc in the 1987 national championship game, a victory over Syracuse that would secure a fifth national title for the Hoosiers. Few in the media have been bigger vocal supporters of former IU basketball coach Bob Knight than legendary television color commentator Dick Vitale. Vitale and Knight are just a year apart in age, and the pair were central figures in the national college basketball landscape throughout the 80s and 90s. While he had some notorious public moments with the media, Knight formed close bonds with some individuals in that space such as Vitale and local writer Bob Hammel. Well heeled IU football fans now have the chance to enjoy a premium suite experience this fall at Memorial Stadium from the field level. Beginning in September, Memorial Stadium will feature eight field level suites on the stadium’s south end located immediately behind the end zone.
