The redshirt senior is among the preseason candidates for the Butkus Award, awarded to the most impactful linebacker in college football. It’s difficult to imagine Tom Allen pouring all of his seemingly limitless energy into debits and credits, but that’s the path he was on as he went off to college after graduating from New Castle H.S. in 1988. A second national award has tabbed Indiana sophomore Jaylin Lucas as part of its preseason watch list. The Doak Walker Award released its list of players to watch during the 2023 season and included Lucas. The prestigious Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to honor the nation’s most outstanding collegiate running back. Named for the 1948 Heisman Trophy winner and three-time All-America selection from SMU, the Doak Walker Award recognizes a football player’s outstanding performance on the field, as well as his achievements in the community and in the classroom. Watch below an in depth feature on IU basketball one-and-done star guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. Hood-Schifino was chosen with the 17th pick of the first round by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Big Ten conference has officially announced the addition of Washington and Oregon to the conference. In a release, IU Director of Athletics Scott Dolson commented on the addition of the two West Coast schools. “IU Athletics is pleased to welcome the Universities of Oregon and Washington to the Big Ten Conference.
