Class of 2023 combo forward Mackenzie Mgbako is taking an official visit to IU this weekend. He arrives on Friday evening and departs on Sunday. IU men’s basketball has had its academic house in order lately. After tiptoeing the line of postseason ineligibility during the Kelvin Sampson and Tom Crean eras, the program has been rock solid of late. The Hoosiers earned a perfect 1,000 APR score for the 2021-22 academic year, the most recent data released this week, and the program’s current four-year average is also now a perfect 1,000. As the academic year draws to an end, IU Athletics held its annual banquet on Monday evening to honor its student athletes. IU football’s Tiawan Mullen was one of the headliners, winning the 2023 G. Frederick Glass Director’s Award along with diver Margaret Rogers. In total IU handed out 66 individual awards on Monday. The Big Ten conference announced on Tuesday morning the men’s basketball conference opponents for next season. Indiana will face Iowa, Michigan State, and Northwestern at home only in 2023-24, and Illinois, Michigan, and Rutgers away only. The Hoosiers will face the remaining teams (Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, and Wisconsin) twice. The league enters its sixth year playing a 20-game conference schedule and each team will play seven opponents twice, three opponents only at home, and three opponents on the road. Watch below a junior season highlight reel of Montverde Academy’s Liam McNeeley. The 6-foot-7 McNeeley visited IU in September and is one of the program’s top targets in the 2024 class. According to MaxPreps, McNeeley averaged 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals as a junior. His shooting splits were 50/45/84 overall, from three and from the stripe.
