Former IU football linebacker Matt Mayberry has become a best-selling author and motivational speaker. He recently spoke to the entire IU football team. You can watch a portion of that below. Mayberry received the 2009 Howard Brown Award, given to the player who exemplifies the qualities of former IU assistant coach Howard Brown. He started the final 24 games of his career at middle linebacker and closed out his time in Bloomington with nine double-digit tackle games and at least 10 stops in eight of his final 11 conference contests. Big Ten college football writers have no faith in the 2023 edition of IU football. In advance of this week’s Big Ten media days, beat writers from all 14 conference teams participated in Cleveland.com’s annual Big Ten preseason poll, along with some national outlets. A total of 37 voters participated. Each writer was asked to vote 1-7 in both divisions, with first-place votes worth seven points, second-place votes worth six and so on. Of the 37 voters, 27 picked Michigan to win it all, and eight picked Ohio State. Indiana was last in the East Division by a wide margin. …
The final piece to the IU basketball 2023-24 roster puzzle arrives on campus on Monday. After finishing up coursework, transfer forward Anthony Walker will join his teammates on the IU campus this week. They dominated the paint for IU’s basketball programs during the 2022-23 athletic year on their way to becoming two of the all-time greats to wear the candy stripes. And this week IU basketball reigned supreme when it came to the school’s athletes of the year honors. Former Indiana men’s basketball standouts Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis have wrapped up play at the California Classic Summer League and NBA 2k24 Summer League. The former IU duo performed much like they did in Bloomington during the 2022-23 campaign. For the Los Angeles Lakers, Hood-Schifino averaged 13.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in six appearances in the Sacramento and Las Vegas.
