As we’ve seen now on several occasions during the 2024 transfer portal season, when national outlets start making predictions for Indiana, things have turned out well for the Hoosiers.
On Sunday evening, 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham made a prediction for Bellarmine center Langdon Hatton to land at IU. Branham and others accurately called the Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle, Oumar Ballo and Luke Goode recruitments for Indiana before they announced their decisions.
Indiana has two open scholarships on its 2024-25 roster, and Hatton, a Georgetown, Ind. product, would clearly fill a need.
The 6-foot-10 and 240-pound Hatton started all 31 games for Bellarmine in 2023-24. Taking on the biggest role of his career, he averaged 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per contest. Hatton shot 48 percent from the field overall, including 33.3 percent (15-of-45) from three. He added 24 blocks on the season.
Hatton started his career at William & Mary and then played the last two seasons at Bellarmine.
The North Harrison H.S. product’s 2023-24 turnover rate was just 10.4%, good for No. 187 nationally. He also ranked nationally in the top-500 in defensive rebounding percentage (19.5%, No. 252), block rate (3.2%, No. 355), fouls called against per 40 minutes (2.3, No. 444), and offensive rebounding percentage (7.6%, No. 463).
Hatton has one year of eligibility remaining. If he chooses IU, he’d give the Hoosiers some needed depth in the front court next season. Of the 11 scholarship players currently on the roster, only three — Ballo, Malik Reneau, and Mackenzie Mgbako — would be expected to play the power forward and center positions. And Mgbako started at small forward when he was a freshman a year ago, and will likely do the same next season.
Hatton has received interest from other high majors, including Ohio State, Louisville, Clemson, and Minnesota.
