Big Ten football fans don’t touch that dial.
And turn up the volume on that microphone.
KETV-7 in Omaha picked up Nebraska president Ted Carter on a hot mic on Tuesday, and his brief comment clearly suggests that an announcement from the Big Ten conference is coming on Tuesday evening.
“During small talk prior to the start of a news conference Tuesday morning, University of Nebraska President Ted Carter says an announcement of the Husker football season will come Tuesday afternoon or evening,” KETV reported.
‘We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight’, said Carter in a conversation with Bob Hinson, director of the National Strategic Research Institute.
The two were at a podium, just moments prior to a news conference in Lincoln.”

Based on various reports, the league’s presidents and chancellors had been deliberating over the last couple days about playing football in the fall.
The league postponed the 2020 season in August, citing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Commissioner Kevin Warren indicated later that the decision to wait until calendar year 2021 would not be revisited.
The league’s presidents and chancellors voted 11-3 last month to shut down all Big Ten fall sports. It is not clear whether any announcement tonight might also impact all other fall sports.
Medical advances over the last month, and in particular real-time testing for COVID-19, have allowed the league to reconsider its decision to postpone.
On Saturday, the Big Ten’s medical subcommittee made a formal presentation to the league’s presidential steering committee, which features presidents/chancellors from eight schools.
The full Council of Presidents and Chancellors was briefed Sunday.
It has been widely speculated in recent days that the league might endeavor to start the season on Oct. 17. That would allow enough time for eight conference games in a nine week window, and a Big Ten Championship game on Dec. 19 — before the College Football Playoff field is announced.
The College Football Playoff field is scheduled to be revealed Dec. 20.
In August the league broke the news to pause the season on the Big Ten Network. It would not be surprising to see a prime time announcement on the network on Tuesday evening.
UPDATE: Carter said his hot mic comment was taken out of context.
