A second defensive back in IU football’s 2025 recruiting class is no longer verbally committed to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
The recruitment of 4-star Byron Baldwin has been reopened according to multiple reports.
Baldwin verbally committed to the Hoosiers in April, when he pledged to them over Minnesota, Kentucky and others. He was the top-ranked player in IU’s 2025 class.
But since then Baldwin has continued his recruitment, with schools like Colorado and Penn State involved. He recently took a visit to Colorado, which created speculation he might flip his decision.
That might have also drawn the ire of Cignetti and the IU staff.
In June, 2025 cornerback Chris McCorkle was suddenly no longer verbally committed to IU soon after the news he was continuing his recruitment with visits elsewhere.
In any event, Indiana seems to have lost a talented piece of the 2025 puzzle.
Baldwin is the No. 188 overall prospect and No. 17 safety in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Some reports indicate Indiana will still be a contender for Baldwin, but this seems unlikely. There are already predictions he will land at Colorado.
With Baldwin in the class, IU’s 2025 group was ranked No. 54 nationally and No. 15 in the Big Ten according to On3.
