There are eight former Indiana basketball players currently with college basketball programs around the country this season.
Take a look at how each of them are performing at their new schools through Sunday:
Tamar Bates – Missouri
Bates is a star player on a top-25 team in his final season of college basketball.
He’s averaging 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game over 25.8 minutes per contest. Leading the team in scoring, he’s shooting 50% from the field overall, and 39% from three. Bates has started all 25 games this year and will likely earn All-SEC honors after the season.
For his career, Bates is up to 1,106 points in 124 games.
Missouri will make the NCAA Tournament. They are 19-6 overall, and 8-4 in the SEC.
Kaleb Banks – Tulane
Banks has had a breakout season at Tulane this year.
The junior wing is averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds per game in 30.8 minutes per contest. He’s shooting 49.8% from the field and 31.7% from three.
Banks is the second-leading scorer on the team and has started all 24 games he’s been available. For his career he’s played in 69 games and scored 464 points — with 361 coming this season.
Tulane is 14-11 overall, and 8-4 in the AAC.
C.J. Gunn – DePaul
Gunn has been a key player for Chris Holtmann at DePaul this season.
He played in 24 games with 14 starts and is averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 24.6 minutes per game. Gunn is the team’s leading scorer and is shooting 42.9% overall, and 30.1% from three on 5.7 attempts per game from long range.
The junior is up to 449 points in 73 career games.
DePaul is 11-15 and unlikely to play postseason basketball after the Big East Tournament.
Payton Sparks – Ball State
In his final season of eligibility, Sparks has gone right back to being a force at Ball State after transferring back there during the offseason.
Playing for former IU player Michael Lewis, Sparks is averaging 13 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 61.6% from the field. He is the second-leading scorer on the team, and his numbers are very similar to his first two seasons at Ball State.
Sparks has now played in 111 games and scored 1,204 points despite a very limited role at IU in 2023-24.
Ball State is 13-12 overall, and 6-6 in the MAC.
Khristian Lander – Western Kentucky
In his final season of eligibility, Lander is having his most productive campaign.
The Evansville product is averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and a steal per game in 26.6 minutes per contest. He has appeared in 22 games with 15 starts. He’s shooting 43.3% overall and 36.4% from three.
Lander is up to 120 career games and 704 points since joining IU in 2020.
Western Kentucky is just 14-11 and appears to be at risk for missing meaningful postseason action after an NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago.
Logan Duncomb – Winthrop
Duncomb made a return trip to Bloomington during the nonconference with his new team with limited fanfare. And that’s somewhat been the story of his season at Winthrop.
Duncomb has played in 18 games and averaged 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 7.7 minutes per contest. He should have another season of eligibility next year after not playing a year ago.
Winthrop is currently 18-10 overall and in third place in the Big South.
Jordan Geronimo – Maryland
Geronimo has remained a role player this year at Maryland, his final season of eligibility.
In 20 games, all off the bench, he is averaging 2.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, .7 blocks, and .6 steals over just 8.3 minutes per game. Geronimo is shooting 53.8% from the field overall, including 25% from three.
For his career, Geronimo has amassed 521 points in 133 games.
The Terps look like a lock for the NCAA Tournament at 20-6 overall, and 10-5 in the Big Ten.
Jerome Hunter – Xavier
Hunter is in his seventh and final year on a college campus after missing the entire 2023-24 campaign with an injury.
In 26 games with six starts, Hunter is averaging 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 48.1% from the field. For his lengthy career the Ohio native has played in 153 games and scored 847 points.
Xavier (16-10) is an NCAA Tournament bubble team with roughly the same chance to make the field as Indiana.
