What is going on here?
In Tyler Cherry, Indiana landed the fifth highest-rated quarterback in the 2024 class according to the final On3 top-300. He’s already on campus in Bloomington and preparing for the 2024 season.
Could they land an even higher-ranked quarterback in the 2025 class?
New IU coach Curt Cignetti and his staff have a reputation for developing quarterbacks, and they aren’t afraid to compete against the nation’s top programs for high-end talent.
Last Sunday, the Hoosiers welcomed class of 2025 5-star Julian Lewis for a visit. Just getting a quarterback of that caliber on campus qualifies as an accomplishment.
But there have been some interesting developments since Lewis’ IU visit.
Yesterday, a 247Sports national story reported favorable feedback from Lewis on the visit.
“Indiana is building something special. (QB) Coach Tino (Sunseri) and (offensive coordinator) coach (Mike) Shanahan are going to have that offense rolling,” Lewis said.
Then Lewis posted a quick workout video, and when he completed a throw, a towel with an Indiana logo appeared on his backside.

Finally, a 247Sports panel discussed Lewis yesterday, and one of their national analysts said the Hoosiers are legitimate contenders.
“Not what I would’ve expected to say 48 hours ago, but I’m going to give them a shot. I really do,” Tom Loy of 247Sports said Thursday. “Honestly I’ll just call my shot at this point. I don’t see USC keeping him in their class.”
“I see some other heavy hitters in this one, whether it’s Georgia, Auburn, and I’m not ready to write off Indiana. I talked to somebody today that said Tino Sunseri – that relationship is very real. And let’s be honest, if that kid steps on campus, there’s nobody else that’s going to keep that dude from playing in year one. He’s that special of a talent. So I’m not ready to write them [Indiana] off. People were making it very clear to me today that that relationship means a lot. They’ve known each other, like I said, for seven years, had him at a youth camp in Tallahassee. You know, relationships matter to a lot of these guys, and Juju’s one of those guys that it carries a lot of weight.”
