At some point things had to start improving as it relates to the depth on the Indiana basketball roster. Perhaps that time is now.
IU head basketball coach Archie Miller told reporters on Friday afternoon that junior guard Devonte Green was “full go” at practice on Thursday and will return to action on Saturday night when the Hoosiers face Michigan State in East Lansing.
Green did not travel with the team to Northwestern last week at which time the school released the following brief statement:
“Indiana University junior Devonte Green, a member of the men’s basketball team, has been suspended from game competition for not meeting the standards expected of members of the program. There will be no further comment on the matter at this time.”
Green missed that game against Northwestern and the subsequent games against Michigan and Rutgers. No further details regarding the reason for the suspension were released.
Green has appeared in 14 games this season, starting in five of those contests. The North Babylon, New York native is averaging 8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 turnovers per game on the season.
DAVIS WORKING HIS WAY BACK / McROBERTS OUT INDEFINITELY
It isn’t all good news for Indiana.
Miller indicated that senior co-captain Zach McRoberts is dealing with a “stress reaction in his foot” and will be out indefinitely. McRoberts has been dealing with a back injury throughout the season, and this latest setback forced him to miss all but one minute of the Rutgers game.
Junior forward De’Ron Davis has been out for a couple weeks with an ankle injury. Miller said Davis has started to return to practice and is targeting a return to game action in February. The ankle issue was just the latest challenge for Davis. The Colorado native has been limited all season after recovering from an Achilles tendon tear last year.
