7-foot center Fridrik Leo Curtis visited Indiana in December before ultimately committing to Arizona State.
But prior to that IU visit, the product of Iceland took a visit to West Virginia and their then head coach Darian DeVries.
Indiana, West Virginia and Arizona State were the only three visits he took.
On Friday Curtis announced he has decommitted from Arizona State. He committed there in January and was expected to sign this month.
Perhaps with DeVries now at Indiana, the Hoosiers will get another look?
DeVries’ developing roster needs multiple big men, and Curtis’ 7-foot frame could fill a need, perhaps early on in more of a developmental role.
More of a modern big man, Curtis can stretch the floor with his ability to make threes. That will probably be the strength of his game at the next level, at least until he gets stronger and grows more accustomed to the physical post game in the U.S. Curtis is good, but he started playing basketball relatively late and will likely be a developmental player early in his college career.
Curtis attends Cambridge Arts, Technology and Science (CATS) Academy in Braintree, Mass. That school is part of the highly competitive NEPSAC league. He just arrived in the United States to play his senior season.
Playing for D1 Iceland in the 2023-24 season, the 220-pound Curtis averaged 15.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while shooting 64.7 percent from the field and 42.2 percent from 3-point range on 42 of 102 attempts.
Curtis picked the Sun Devils over reported scholarship offers from Alabama, Creighton, Indiana, Stanford, UCF, Xavier and West Virginia.
