Jakai Newton will be looking for a fresh start and a clean bill of health back in his home state.
On Friday Newton announced on Instagram he’s headed to Georgia State University in Atlanta, about 30 minutes from where he went to high school.
Newton was Mike Woodson’s first high school commit, but he was never able to make a meaningful impact during two seasons in Bloomington.
The Georgia native played in four games and averaged 1.5 points per appearance in 2024-25. Newton dealt with multiple injuries during the season and had midseason surgery. He also missed the entire 2023-24 season due to an injury.
