On Thursday Cincinnati named Indiana transfer Brendan Sorsby as the Bearcats’ starting quarterback for their Aug. 31 season opener.
“He has worked hard to learn the offense, and he’s made a lot of plays,” Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield said of Sorsby. “I think he has earned the respect of his teammates, which is huge. There are so many little things that go into being the starter, and I think Brendan has handled himself well.
“He has a quiet confidence about himself but he shows humility too, which I like in a quarterback.”
Sorsby played two seasons with IU, starting seven games.
In 2023 he started the season sharing snaps with Tayven Jackson, who won the full-time job briefly before Sorsby later claimed it. Sorsby threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023.
Meanwhile at Michigan, former IU quarterback Jack Tuttle won’t be the starter, at least initially.
During Big Ten Network’s look inside the Wolverines’ camp this week, studio host Dave Revsine revealed Tuttle is still dealing with an injury that caused him to miss spring practice.
“It’s not gonna be Jack Tuttle, at least initially,” Revsine said on the air. “He’s working his back from an injury, so it’s a two-man race at quarterback.”
The graduate senior, who was granted a seventh season of college eligibility in February, completed 15-of-17 pass attempts for 130 yards and a touchdown for Michigan in 2023. Five completions, 22 yards, and a score came against IU.
Tuttle spent four seasons with the Hoosiers. Redshirt sophomore Alex Orji and redshirt junior Davis Warren are the remaining contenders for the starting job in Ann Arbor.
Other former Indiana quarterbacks still playing college football in 2024 include Connor Bazelak (Bowling Green State), and Dexter Williams (Georgia Southern). Bazelak is expected to start, while Williams will be a backup to open the season.
