Former IU baseball pitcher Tanner Gordon made his Major League Baseball debut on Sunday afternoon in Denver.
Throwing for the Colorado Rockies, Gordon got off to a good start, with two strikeouts and a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first.
But Kansas City posted four runs against Gordon, all earned, in the second.
Gordon settled in from there, throwing four straight scoreless innings. He was chased out in the top of the 7th with one out after giving up a solo home run. Colorado’s hitters provided no support, producing no runs during Gordon’s time on the mound.
In total, Gordon pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 5 earned runs and 8 hits. He had 4 strikeouts and no walks. He threw 78 pitches, 62 of which were strikes.

Prior to the call-up, the 26-year-old righty made seven starts this season with Albuquerque, accruing a 5.35 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB in 33.2 innings.
The Illinois native was selected by the Atlanta Braves (6th Round, Pick 187) in the 2019 MLB Draft.
At Indiana, Gordon started 16 games on the mound for the Hoosiers in 2019, posting a record of 6-6. He recorded a 3.81 ERA in 87.1 innings pitched with 90 strikeouts. His 90 strikeouts ranked ninth on IU’s single-season list.
In the last 10 years, 12 different Hoosiers have made their MLB debut. The last eight players to reach the big leagues have all been pitchers.
Gordon became the fourth former Hoosier to see action in the MLB this season.
