The NBA All-Star weekend Sunday evening main event will include former IU basketball star Trayce Jackson-Davis.
He was a part of the winning Rising Stars team which advances to the All-Star Game round as part of the weekend tournament format.
Playing in his home arena, Jackson-Davis is on a team (Team Candace) coached by former Warrior Chris Mullin. One of his teammates is former Purdue star Zach Edey.
TJD will face a team selected by Shaquille O’Neal that includes Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. That games tips at 9:10 p.m. Sunday (TNT/TBS/TruTV) in the second semifinal at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The winner advances to the final round.
“I think everyone on our side is going to try and run. Run and gun,” Jackson-Davis said of facing the veterans. “Run ‘em. We got the youth on them.”
The NBA All-Star Game’s new format that includes four teams also comes with a cash prize consisting of a $1.8 million pool. Each player on the winning team will receive $125,000. Players on the second-place team will walk away with $50,000, and those on the third and fourth-place team each get $25,000.
The Warriors forward has started 37 games this season and is averaging 7.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.
UPDATE: Jackson Davis and Team Candace lost 42-35. TJD played six minutes and scored two points while adding an assist and a steal. He’ll received $25,000.
