A stint in the resuscitated USFL helped revive Stevie Scott’s football career.
The New York native and three-year IU football starter signed with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday according to multiple reports.
This is Scott’s second stint with the Broncos. He was signed by them during training camp last year but was waived after just a week with the team. He did make a preseason appearance with Denver a year ago, totaling seven rushes for 23 yards.
In the USFL Scott rushed for 310 yards and three touchdowns on 99 attempts for the Michigan Panthers as part of a season that just ended in mid-June. He finished 12th in the league in rushing yards.
Scott scored 10 touchdowns in all three of his college seasons with IU. He completed his career ranked ninth all-time at Indiana in rushing yards (2,543) and fourth in touchdowns (30).
Scott’s rushing numbers did drop off in each of his three collegiate seasons, dropping from an average of 5 yards per carry in his freshman season to 3.6 in his last year with the Hoosiers.
Scott left IU a year early and he was not selected in the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed deals with the New Orleans Saints and Denver but did not play for either team.
