Four years ago at this time he was just looking to make an NFL roster.
Signed by the Tennessee Titans in 2020 after going undrafted out of Indiana, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is now entering his fifth season with the AFC franchise. And he is now the longest-tenured offensive player with the Titans.
Over the last four seasons, Westbrook-Ikhine has played in 61 games, with 30 starts. He has caught 94 passes for 1,276 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Westbrook-Ikhine signed a new 1-year, $2 million deal with the Titans during the offseason, but he says he’s taking nothing for granted going into his fifth season in the NFL.
“You definitely have to prove yourself,” Westbrook-Ikhine said, via the team’s website. “Complacency kills, so you can’t be complacent. The fact that I’ve been here, going into year five, doesn’t really mean anything. It’s a totally new staff, and a totally new year, a new room.
“So, you always have to prove yourself in this league.”
The Titans have made several moves at wide receiver during the offseason, adding multiple players who will compete with Westbrook-Ikhine for snaps.
Tennessee signed Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to join a group that also includes DeAndre Hopkins and 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks.
The Lake Mary, Fla. product finished his Indiana career (2015-2019) with 144 receptions for 2,226 yards and 16 touchdowns.
He ranks sixth at IU in catches, seventh in yardage and TDs, and tied for seventh in 100-yard receiving games (6) in the IU record book. Westbrook, who played in the 2020 East-West Shrine Bowl, became the seventh Hoosier to reach 125 receptions and 2,000 yards. The four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree appeared in a program-record 52 games (36 starts).
