With AAU basketball and live evaluation periods in the rearview mirror, things are moving fast with the class of 2025.
And in the case of four players who have been on the IU basketball radar for a long time, it’s time to officially move on.
Several of these developments we warned you last week were likely coming soon.
Kiyan Anthony will not follow in the footsteps of his father Carmelo to play for Mike Woodson. The younger Anthony announced a final six on Thursday that did not include the Hoosiers. Instead, he’ll choose from Syracuse, Ohio State, Florida State, Rutgers, Auburn and USC. That follows more than a year of Anthony praising Woodson and saying he was planning to visit.
Meanwhile, Michigan-based top-20 guard Trey McKenney also excluded IU from his list of finalists on Thursday. After taking multiple visits to Bloomington early on in his recruitment, McKenney announced he’ll choose from Creighton, Georgetown, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, and USC.
Those two Thursday announcements followed another guard Indiana appeared to have some early traction but won’t be headed to Bloomington. 5-star Pittsburgh-based guard Meleek Thomas announced yesterday a final seven of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas, Kansas State, Pitt, and UConn.
Finally, in-state 2025 forward Brady Koehler, who Indiana showed some interest in this spring and summer but never offered, also named a top five on Thursday that did not include the Hoosiers. The 6-foot-9 Indianapolis Cathedral H.S. product will choose from Iowa, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Northwestern.
So who is IU still involved with in the 2025 class?
On Thursday morning we published an updated version of the recruiting prospects page with the eight players we’re calling their main targets in the 2025 class right now:
