A pair of Indiana-bound Georgia products earned high honors in the Peach State on Friday.
Class of 2022 signee Kaleb Banks was named the Class 4A Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Meanwhile, class of 2023 verbal commit Jakai Newton was named Class 7A Second Team All-State. Class 7A is the state’s largest.
Playing for Fayette County High School, the 6-foot-8 Banks averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game for the region champs.
“Kaleb is someone who continues to improve his game and has a tremendous future in basketball,” head coach Mike Woodson said.
“He is a very versatile player both offensively and defensively. His ability to score the basketball and create for him and his teammates is something that was very attractive to our staff. He is a tough-minded player who plays with great confidence and will be an impactful part of our program. I love the way he carries himself and shows his love for what he does.”
The 6-foot-3 Newton averaged 14.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for a Newton High School squad that made it to the Final Four.
Banks is a 4-star prospect and the No. 74 ranked player in the class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite. Newton is a 4-star and the No. 61 player in the class of 2023.
