IU football has not seen a player selected in the NFL Draft for two years.
That run of futility was preceded by them having at least one player selected every year from 2014-2022.
It looks like a new streak will begin in 2025, as several Hoosiers have the potential to be chosen by an NFL franchise in April.
ESPN’s Matt Miller projects as many as five IU players could be selected in next spring’s draft. Here’s how Miller suggested that might go for the Hoosiers:
- Round 3: DE Mikail Kamara
- Round 4: QB Kurtis Rourke
- Round 6: DT CJ West
- Round 7: LB Jailin Walker, OT Trey Wedig
Kamara has an additional year of eligibility remaining, so he’s on stay-or-go announcement watch at the moment. After having such a good season with Indiana it might be hard for him to come back to college.
Rourke was recently rated as the eighth-best QB by ESPN’s Jordan Reid, and the sixth-best by Mel Kiper. It seems highly likely he’ll end up with an NFL franchise in some capacity in 2025.
West came on strong as the season progressed and had his best game of the season against Notre Dame according to PFF.
Walker’s closing speed will be intriguing to NFL teams, and Wedig’s man only touched the QB three times all year (two sacks and one QB hit).
There are several additional players who could be on the draft radar or become a potential free agent signee. Offensive lineman Mike Katic and running back Justice Ellison are two more who are likely to get a close look as well.
Two other players who currently look like they could have professional careers won’t be part of next year’s draft. Aiden Fisher already announced his return to IU for 2025, and D’Angelo Ponds is not draft eligible until 2026.
The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is February 24 – March 3 in Indianapolis.
The 2025 NFL Draft is April 24-26 in Green Bay.
