Losing class of 2024 wing Liam McNeeley doesn’t sting quite as bad after Indiana picked up Bryson Tucker, another 5-star McDonald’s All-American, on Thursday.
Given their similar resumes and connections to IU, Tucker and McNeeley will be interesting to compare in the years to come.
But where will McNeeley play college basketball?
That’s still a mystery.
ESPN’s Paul Biancardi caught up with McNeeley and got some details on how he broke the news of his decommitment from Indiana, and what’s next in his recruitment.
While it’s clear McNeeley won’t be playing for the Hoosiers, it isn’t out of the question he’ll play in the Big Ten.
Here’s what Biancardi posted on his X page about his conversation with McNeeley:
I spoke with Liam McNeely on his de-commitment from Indiana and his current recruiting situation.
“I personally reached out to Indiana, spoke with Coach Mike Woodson and had a direct conversation with him,” McNeeley told ESPN.
“I expressed my utmost respect for Coach Woodson, Indiana University and their devoted fan base.”
McNeeley also offered some insight into how he plans to approach the next few weeks.
“Moving forward, I have had contact with several schools, including Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, Houston and many others,” he said. “New Michigan head coach Dusty May said I was his first recruiting call. That was special.”
“Right now, my primary focus is preparing and practicing for the upcoming McDonald’s game and Chipotle Nationals. I am going to hold off any college visits until those basketball events have concluded.”
