With the transfer portal now closed and the dust starting to settle on new additions, it’s time to take a look at where Indiana’s 2025 haul ranks nationally and in the Big Ten.
According to 247Sports, Indiana has the No. 17 transfer portal class in the nation as of Friday afternoon. They are No. 4 in the Big Ten according to that outlet behind only Nebraska, Oregon and Wisconsin.
On3 does their rankings a bit different. They attempt to compute a net transfer portal rankings, factoring both additions and subtractions via the portal. As a concept that makes since, but the player grades the outlet is using seem a little suspect.
On3 nets the average player rating of the players coming in and out via the portal. And Indiana, for example, hasn’t lost any starters via the transfer portal since it opened in December, but they’ve added several players likely to start next season, including starters transferring in from Power 4 programs.
Nevertheless, On3’s net algorithm ranks IU’s 2025 haul No. 42 in the nation and No. 14 in the Big Ten, with the net player rating being roughly even. Indiana has added 17 scholarship transfers to this point, and lost 10, and overall, purely as it relates to the portal, the Hoosiers have clearly upgraded their talent.
For comparison purposes, Indiana ranked No. 28 a year ago at 247Sports (No. 7 in the Big Ten), and No. 10 at On3 (No. 2 in the Big Ten).
While the portal is now closed for new entrants, players who entered before the deadline can still take as much time as necessary to find a new school.
The portal re-opens in mid-April for a 10-day period coming out of spring practice. Indiana picked up key players in the spring of 2024, including cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and defensive tackle C.J. West.
