Former IU basketball star Cody Zeller was traded to the Atlanta Hawks over the summer but never suited up for them.
This week the Houston Rockets received a 2028 second-round pick from the Hawks in exchange for taking on the salary of Zeller. The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
An 11-year NBA veteran, Zeller has appeared in 552 career games (275 starts), averaging 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 20.9 minutes, suiting up for Charlotte, Portland, Miami, and New Orleans.
Zeller was drafted by Charlotte at No. 4 overall in the 2013 first round.
Now 32, Zeller played two seasons with Indiana and was an immediate success, winning the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2012 as voted on by the coaches. He was first-team All-Big Ten for the 2012-13 season.
For his Indiana career Zeller averaged 16.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and shot 59.3% from the field.
TRAYCE JACKSON-DAVIS WILL TEAM WITH ZACH EDEY IN NBA RISING STARS GAME
Golden State Warriors’ center/forward Trayce Jackson-Davis has been drafted to Chris Mullin’s Team C for the NBA Castrol Rising Stars game. which will take place on Friday, February 14 (5 p.m. on TNT), at Chase Center.
Former Purdue star and current Memphis big man Zach Edey was also drafted to Mullin’s team. Both Jackson-Davis and Edey have played significant minutes for their respective teams.
Mullin and his Run TMC Warriors teammates — Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond — drafted from a pool of high-performing rookie and sophomore players on Tuesday.
In Friday’s Castrol Rising Stars mini-tournament, Team T (Tim Hardaway) will face Team M (Mitch Richmond) in the first semifinal game and Team C (Chris Mullin) will play Team G (G League, Jeremy Lin) in the second semifinal game. The winner of Game 1 will meet the winner of Game 2 in the championship.
For each semifinal game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points. For the championship game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 25 points.
The winning Rising Stars team will be featured in the All-Star Game mini-tournament on Sunday, Feb. 16, competing against the NBA All-Stars.
