The upcoming NFL Draft will see at least one former Hoosier selected.
But Indiana may still not be called during the draft.
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is a potential first-round pick, but — of course — he transferred from IU to Washington in 2022. When Penix is selected, it will be as a Husky.
The Hoosiers will be hoping one of their players earns a call on day three. And that is far from certain. Many mock drafts that project all seven rounds have IU getting shut out. If that happened, it would be the second consecutive season for the program without an NFL Draft pick. Last year, IU snapped a streak of nine straight years with a player selected. Micah McFadden — a fifth-round pick in 2022 — remains IU’s most recent draftee.
One seven-round mock did have linebacker Aaron Casey getting picked. He may be Indiana’s most likely candidate to be drafted — he was the team’s lone player to participate in the NFL Combine.
Pro Football Network (Ian Cummings) has Casey going in the sixth round to the Tennessee Titans. PFN has Penix at No. 13 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders. Eric Edholm (NFL.com) also projects Penix at the 13th pick.
ESPN (Jordan Reid) has Penix going No. 44 overall to the Raiders.
The Athletic (Dane Brugler) picked the quarterback to go No. 29 overall to the Raiders.
FantasyPros (Scott Bogman) also sent Penix to Vegas, this time at No. 44 overall after a mock trade.
Pro Football Focus had Penix going No. 12 overall to the New England Patriots.
Fox Sports (Rob Rang) projected Penix to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 11 overall. CBS Sports (R.J. White) also had him going to the Vikings, after a mock trade up to the eighth pick.
Sports Illustrated (Connor Orr) sent Penix to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 32 overall, after a mock trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 2024 NFL Draft will take place Thursday April 25 through Saturday 27, 2024.
You can watch the draft live on NFL Network, ESPN, and ESPN2. It starts at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
The action from Detroit will kick off with Round 1 on Thursday, Rounds 2-3 are Friday, and Rounds 4-7 are on Saturday.
