Week one of the 2024 NFL season is in the books, and that means it’s time to check in on former IU football players in the NFL.
Here’s an overview of the players on NFL rosters and practice squads, and how they did in week one:
ON NFL ROSTERS:
Dan Feeney, OL, Minnesota Vikings: Now in his eighth season in the NFL, Feeney is the longest-tenured Hoosier in the league. Playing for his fourth franchise, Feeney saw the field in week one for the Vikings on four special teams snaps. He currently has a backup role along the interior of the offensive line. Feeney has played in 113 NFL games with 65 starts during his career.
Peyton Hendershot, TE, Kansas City: Hendershot was traded in August from Dallas to Kansas City after two seasons with the Cowboys. While he is on the Kansas City roster, Hendershot was not active for week one. He had 15 catches for 141 yards and two TDs over his two seasons in Dallas.
Cam Jones, LB, Kansas City Chiefs: In his second NFL season and already the owner of a Super Bowl championship ring, Jones played 16 special teams snaps in week one. He did not register any stats. Last season Jones played in 17 games and amassed a total of 17 tackles.
Micah McFadden, LB, New York Giants: McFadden is expected to be a starter for the Giants, but he’s being eased back from a preseason groin injury. He did not play in week one. In two years with New York, McFadden has 160 tackles including 18 for a loss.
Michael Penix, Jr., QB, Atlanta Falcons: Since he’s an IU alumnus we’ll track Penix’s season here. A first round draft choice of the Falcons, Penix did not play in a week one loss to the Steelers. He’s behind Kirk Cousins, who threw two interceptions in week one.
Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers: The former IU tight end started the season on injured reserve, which means he’ll miss at least the next four weeks. He has been sidelined by a calf injury suffered during training camp. This is Thomas’ seventh NFL season, all with Carolina. He has 94 games, 116 receptions, 1,055 yards and four TDs for his career.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR, Tennessee Titans: The longest-tenured offensive player on the Titans, Westbrook-Ikhine played 12 week one snaps on offense and did not register a target. He also played 20 special teams snaps and recorded two tackles. Now in his fifth NFL season, Westbrook-Ikhine has 94 catches, 1,276 yards and 10 TDs in 62 NFL games.
