Week two of the 2024 NFL season is in the books, and that means it’s time to check in on former IU football players in the NFL.
Here’s an overview of the players on NFL rosters and practice squads, and how they did in week two:
ON NFL ROSTERS:
Dan Feeney, OL, Minnesota Vikings: Now in his eighth season in the NFL, Feeney is the longest-tenured Hoosier in the league. Playing for his fourth franchise, Feeney saw the field in week two for the Vikings on five special teams snaps. He currently has a backup role along the interior of the offensive line. Feeney has played in 114 NFL games with 65 starts during his career.
Peyton Hendershot, TE, Kansas City Chiefs: Hendershot was traded in August from Dallas to Kansas City after two seasons with the Cowboys. Hendershot was active for the first time this season in week two. He played seven special teams snaps and recorded an assisted tackle.
Cam Jones, LB, Kansas City Chiefs: In his second NFL season and already the owner of a Super Bowl championship ring, Jones played 17 special teams snaps in week two. Jones plays on kickoff returns, kickoff coverage, punt returns and punt coverage. He did not record any stats.
Micah McFadden, LB, New York Giants: After not playing in week one due to injury, McFadden was a star in week two, recording 13 tackles, a sack and two QB hurries. According to PFF, McFadden had the highest defensive grade on the team.
Michael Penix, Jr., QB, Atlanta Falcons: Since he’s an IU alumnus we’ll track Penix’s season here. A first round draft choice of the Falcons, Penix did not play in a week two win over Philadelphia on Monday night.
Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers: The former IU tight end started the season on injured reserve, which means he’ll miss at least the first four weeks. He has been sidelined by a calf injury suffered during training camp. This is Thomas’ seventh NFL season, all with Carolina. He has 94 games, 116 receptions, 1,055 yards and four TDs for his career.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR, Tennessee Titans: The longest-tenured offensive player on the Titans, Westbrook-Ikhine played 10 week one snaps on offense and did not register a target. He also played 19 special teams snaps on kickoff returns, kickoff coverage, punt returns and punt coverage.
ON NFL PRACTICE SQUADS:
The following players didn’t make opening week 53-man rosters, but are currently with NFL franchises on practice squads:
- Caleb Jones, OT, New England
- Raheem Layne, S, New York Giants
- Marcelino McCrary-Ball, LB, New York Jets
- Luke Haggard, OT, Tampa Bay
Jaylin Williams started the season on the Minnesota practice squad but was released.
