Designated hitter Jordan Fucci homered twice and drove in three runs to lead Indiana to a 7-3 win over Maryland Sunday in College Park, Md. to avoid a sweep in the final series of the regular season.
First baseman Kip Fougeroussie also homered, going back-to-back with Fucci as part of a four-run sixth inning that gave Indiana control. Outfielder Drew Ashley also drove in two runs for Indiana and outfielder Grant Richardson drove in a run.
Indiana ends the regular season with a 26-18 record. They went into the weekend on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament berth. Losing both games in a doubleheader with Maryland on Saturday likely ended their chances, but the win Sunday allows them to maintain a flicker of hope going into the announcement of the tournament field Monday.
