Indiana baseball’s postseason fate was uncertain going into Selection Monday. But the Hoosiers didn’t have to wait long to hear good news.
IU has made the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and the third time under head coach Jeff Mercer.
The Hoosiers are in the Knoxville Regional, hosted by No. 1 overall seed Tennessee. Indiana (32-24-1) will open against Southern Miss (41-18), with the Golden Eagles coming off a Sun Belt Tournament championship. The Volunteers (50-11) play Northern Kentucky (35-22) in the other opening matchup of the regional. Both of those games are on Friday.
Indiana had some struggles earlier in the season, taking a 15-14 record into April. But the Hoosiers cameo on strong from there, closing out the season 17-10-1. Indiana is No. 55 in the RPI. Southern Miss ranks No. 26, Northern Kentucky at No. 149, and Tennessee is No. 1.
The Hoosiers advanced to the regional final last season at Kentucky, but lost twice to the Wildcats and missed out on a first Super Regional appearance since 2013.
