Colson Montgomery, a shortstop from Southridge High School and an Indiana recruit, was selected No. 22 overall by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft on Sunday night.
The 6-foot-4 left-handed hitter also starred in basketball and football for Southridge, and led the school to the Class 3A state title game. He hit .333 this season with seven home runs and 17 extra-base hits and scored 42 runs. The slot value on the pick is $3,027,000, making it highly likely he will forego his college career and enter professional baseball.
