The IU basketball class of 2021 has arrived in Bloomington.
The program released a video of the arrival of freshmen Tamar Bates and Logan Duncomb on Sunday. Bates’ family also posted a few photos.
Together the two man class is ranked No. 35 according to the 247Sports Composite.
A 6-foot-5 5-star guard from Kansas City, Kansas, Bates is ranked No. 28 nationally in the class. He played his senior year at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and averaged 11.4 points and shot 40.0% from long distance. He was selected to the 2021 Jordan Brand Classic 30-man roster. Previously Bates was a two-time All-State honoree at Piper High School in Kansas City. Bates averaged 22.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior while leading them to a 21-1 mark and a spot in the Class 4A state semifinals. As a junior he converted 58.0% from the floor, including a 44.1% mark from 3-point range, and 88.0 % from the free throw line that season. He was named the Kansas All-Classes Player of the Year in 2020.
A 2021 graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Duncomb is the #73 recruit nationally according to 247Sports and #72 according to Rivals.com and #87 by ESPN.com. He played three seasons for Coach Carl Kremer and the Fighting Crusaders leading them to the Ohio State Championship in 2019 and the top ranking in the state in 2020 before the season ended due to COVID-19. They won a District crown in 2021. As a senior he averaged 13.5 points and led the Greater Catholic League in rebounding at 9.1 and blocked shots at 1.3. He also added 2.3 assists and shot 59.9% from the floor in 23 games and he was a McDonalds All-American nominee, was first-team All-Ohio, Southwest District and All-GCL.
Incoming transfers Michael Durr and Xavier Johnson also arrived earlier in the week. Miller Kopp is expected to be on campus next weekend.
