Sophomore forward Victor Bezerra scored in regulation and with a penalty kick and Roman Celentano made three saves on penalty kicks to lead Indiana past St. Francis-Brooklyn 3-1 on PKs in the NCAA Tournament after the teams tied 1-1 through double overtime Sunday in Wilmington, N.C.
The Hoosiers, seeded No. 3 overall, advance to play Marquette on Thursday in a regional semifinal in Cary, N.C.
Bezerra scored in the 36th minute on an assist by senior A.J Palazzolo to give the Hoosiers the lead, but El Mahdi Youssoufi of St. Francis-Brooklyn tied the game in the 78th minute and neither team could score in the final minutes of regulation or in 20 minutes of overtime.
Bezerra, senior Thomas Warr and redshirt sophomore Ryan Wittenbrink all made their penalty kick attempts and Celentano stopped three of the four penalty kicks he saw. Celentano had five saves in regulation and the overtime periods.
