Sophomore forward Mauloune Goumballe scored with 10 minutes and 22 seconds remaining to put Indiana ahead en route to a 2-1 win over Marquette in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 on Thursday evening in Cary N.C. The No. 3 overall seed Hoosiers advance to the quarterfinals Monday where they will meet the winner of Thursday night’s game between No. 6 overall seed Seton Hall and Virginia Tech.
Marquette’s A.J. Franklin gave the Golden Eagles the lead 43:19 into the game, putting a rocket into the left corner. However, the Hoosiers tied the game at the 70:47 mark when sophomore Herbert Endeley scored on an assist from sophomore Victor Bezerra. Goumballe scored unassisted right in front of the goal to give Indiana the lead.
Goalkeeper Roman Celentano finished with three saves including one on a header with about six minutes to go to preserve the lead. He has yet to allow more than one goal in a game this season.
