It will be year eight of the Crossroads Classic on Saturday as Indiana travels to Indianapolis for the annual rotating in-state clash with Butler and Notre Dame. The mid-December event at Bankers Life Fieldhouse has routinely produced exciting games, with two overtime contests and only one game decided by double figures.
Below we look back at Indiana’s results in each year of the event since it began in 2011.
INDIANA OVERALL: 4-3
Vs. Notre Dame: 3-1
Vs. Butler: 1-2
2011: Indiana 69 Notre Dame 58. Cody Zeller’s 21 points and eight rebounds leads the way as the Hoosiers grind one out against Notre Dame and improve to 10-0 on the season.
Note: Indiana also played Butler during this season and defeated the Bulldogs in Bloomington, 75-59.
2012: Butler 88 Indiana 86 (OT). Alex Barlow is a name that Indiana fans would probably rather forget. His shot in overtime gave the Bulldogs the win after Yogi Ferrell had tied the game with a three pointer to force overtime. It was the first loss of the year for No. 1 ranked IU.
2013: Notre Dame 79 Indiana 72. The Irish jumped out to an early 13 point lead and IU unsuccessfully tried to play catch up the rest of the way. Will Sheehey tied his career high with 22 points in the loss.
2014: Indiana 82 Butler 73. In a game that was tight throughout, IU used a surge in the final five minutes to pull away from No. 23 Butler. Troy Williams matched his career high with 22 points, and Yogi Ferrell scored 12 of his 20 points during the crucial second-half run.
2015: Indiana 80 Notre Dame 73. This game flipped the script on a season that appeared to be headed nowhere and ended up in an outright Big Ten title for IU. The reversal of fortunes happened during the game, as Indiana trailed by 15 at one point and rallied to win going away at the end. Troy Williams had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
2016: Butler 83 Indiana 78. The Kelan Martin game. The Bulldog forward couldn’t miss for a while and ended up with 28 points and five three-point shots as No. 18 Butler took down No. 9 Indiana. Butler led by 14 at the half but IU cut it to two in the final minute. James Blackmon, Jr. nearly matched Martin with 26 points and four three-pointers.
2017: Indiana 80 Notre Dame 77 (OT). A thrilling win for Indiana in what was an otherwise challenging first season for Archie Miller. Juwan Morgan took the game over late, scoring the final eight points in regulation and eight more in overtime, including a go-ahead bucket with 8.6 seconds left after an offensive rebound by Zach McRoberts, who then found Morgan for a dunk.
