Indiana redshirt junior forward Race Thompson was featured on BTN’s popular documentary series “The Journey.”
Thompson’s athletic family is profiled, along with his development at IU and early challenges in Bloomington.
His father Darrell was a running back at the University of Minnesota from 1986-89 and was the school’s all-time leading rusher before being drafted with the 19th selection by the Green Bay Packers in the 1990 NFL Draft. His mother Stephanie played volleyball at Iowa from 1986-89. Thompson’s sister, Dominique, was an All-American and two-time Academic All-Big Ten volleyball player at Wisconsin during her tenure from 2010-14. His sister, Indigo, is playing volleyball at San Diego State University, and brother, True, is playing football at the University of Minnesota.
The 6-foot-8 and 228 pound Thompson is averaging 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 blocks through 17 games of the 2020-21 season. The Minnesota native joined the IU program for the 2017-18 season and redshirted.
