The head coaches of two up-and-coming IU women’s programs both agreed to contract extensions on Friday.
Coming off strong 2023 seasons and consistent improvement during their respective tenures, volleyball coach Steve Aird and women’s soccer coach Erwin van Bennekom both signed extensions through 2029, IU announced.
Aird, who just completed his sixth season in Bloomington, helped lead the Hoosiers to one of the best seasons in program history in 2023. IU matched a school record with 21 regular season wins and won 11 games in the Big Ten conference for the first time since 1999. It was also just the sixth 20-win season in IU Volleyball’s 43-year history as a varsity program, and only the fourth time the program has won 10 more conference games during that same period.
Meanwhile, van Bennekom will enter his sixth season at the helm of the IU women’s soccer program in 2024. The Hoosiers earned their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 2023, and their first since the 2013 season. Indiana finished with a 12-4-4 record and had their best finish in the Big Ten with a 6-2-2 record. The Hoosiers made their first appearance in the national polls since 2021, and achieved their highest ranking in program history.
