According to a Friday report by the IndyStar, IU and Adidas have finalized a 10-year extension with at least $54 million in guaranteed compensation.
IU and Adidas have been partners since 2004.
Indiana’s current deal with adidas was set to expire this year.
The two sides in 2016 agreed to an eight-year extension worth $53.6 million.
The new contract will take the partnership to 30 years — through 2034.
“Adidas has been a good partner for us in the department,” IU deputy athletics director Stephen Harper said in February during an appearance on Mike Woodson’s radio show.
Adidas has produced some alternate basketball uniforms in the past decade that have been met with mixed reviews. Harper assured IU’s traditional look would remain the mainstay.
The partnership has been questioned by some elements of the fan base, who have wondered whether a deal with Nike would be more attractive to recruiting targets and result in better apparel available for purchase.
But a source told The Daily Hoosier several months ago this new agreement was in the works, as IU covets its position as one of Adidas’ premier brands. “Get used to the idea of Adidas,” we wrote in February.
That status as a top brand has helped IU athletes such as Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino land endorsement deals with Adidas during their time at Indiana.
