Indiana baseball lost its Big Ten opener to Illinois 7-1 on Wednesday night. The Hoosiers will face Michigan State in an elimination game on Thursday. That game will be played at 2PM EST / 1 CT at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.
IU struggled the entire game against the Illinois pitching staff, gathering just 2 hits on the night. Starter Quinn Snarskis held the Hoosiers in check for 5 and 1/3, and then the Illini bullpen took care of the rest.
Hoosier starter Jonathan Stiever was solid through 5 innings before IU’s old nemesis — fielding errors — resurfaced and allowed Illinois to push across 3 unearned runs in the 6th. They added 4 more runs in the 7th to put the game away.
Luke Miller and Ryan Fineman had the only 2 hits on the night for IU. Scotty Bradley added 2 walks.
Due to a late start time, the game did not end until around 1:20 AM Bloomington time.
