IU baseball has lost an opportunity to give its NCAA Tournament resume a major boost.
Indiana’s final midweek game, a contest scheduled at Louisville on Tuesday night, has been canceled due to incoming storms and lightning in the area.
Because it is the last week of the regular season, the game will not be made up.
Instead, IU will turn its attention to the final series of the season, with a strong finish necessary on multiple fronts.
The Hoosiers will finish the regular season at home.
Michigan comes to town later this week for games on Thursday (5:00 PM), Friday (6:00 PM) and Saturday (2:00 PM). The Thursday game is scheduled to air on The Big Ten Network, with the latter two contests set for BTN Plus.
The Hoosiers still have a chance to win a share of the Big Ten regular season crown, but they’ll need help. Indiana, Michigan and Purdue are tied for third place at 13-8. They trail first place Illinois (15-6) and second place Nebraska (14-7). Purdue hosts Illinois this weekend, while Nebraska travels to Michigan State.
IU needs just one more conference win to secure a spot in the 2024 Big Ten Baseball Tournament.
In recent NCAA Tournament projections, Indiana (28-21-1, 13-8) has appeared right on the bubble, both as one of the last teams in and out of the field, according to various outlets.
